Cellphone ban in school upheld by New York courtWhen it comes to the classroom, there are just some things that should be checked at the door. Some say that religion doesn't have a place in the public school environment. Others say that sex-education is best left out of the classroom. And, New York education officials feel that cellphones should be left out of the learning environment.

Citing increased reports of mobile phone-based harassment, educators have banned any and all cellphones from New York school grounds. Needless to say, hovering parents worried about every single second of their child's well-being are upset that the schools have cut off the kids' precious lifelines. So upset, in fact, that a group of parents took the issue to court. The verdict? The cellphone ban stays.

Justice Angela Mazzarelli wrote that, "The cell phone ban does not directly and substantially interfere with any of the rights alleged by the parents." She continued by saying that, "If adults cannot be fully trusted to practice proper cell phone etiquette, then neither can children."

The parents are reportedly going to take this matter up with New York's highest court.

Mobile phone jammers, anyone?
