GPS Navigation arrives for dummies

GPS Navigation arrives for dummies

The “for Dummies” brand from Wiley is famous worldwide, and Wiley has taken one step further by fleshing out the FD-35 GPS Navigation for Dummies device. While 2 million Points-of-Interest (POIs) might sound like a lot in theory, it actually isn’t enough for most people. Manufactured by Maylog, the jury is still out on the FD-35 GPS navigation device on whether it is user friendly or not. For instance, the specifications claim that the FD-35 contains maps of both US and Canada, but displays an Italian language screen instead. Perhaps that’s just a mistake on the graphic artist’s part - does anyone else know anything about this? You’ll get the FD-35 with each purchase of this book this Fall, just like how the Digital Camera for Dummies book came with a barebones digital camera for you to start snapping.

Asus A696 is one steely PDA

Not many people carry around PDAs these days, but Asus is still tapping the market by introducing the A696. This PDA is extremely slim and boasts an integrated GPS navigation system as well, all packed into a stainless steel case that is easy on the eye. Features include a 3.5″ touchscreen display, WiFi connectivity, Bluetooh 2.0 support, and an SD memory card slot. Of course, you can still use the A696 to make and receive phone calls, but it would’ve been a nice touch if Asus threw in 3G connectivity as well. Strange to see the Asus A696 run on Windows Mobile 5.0 though, especially when everyone else have already moved on to Windows Mobile 6.0. The Asus A696 will retail for $400 when released this month. I suppose most of Joe Public will emit a “meh” and fall for the iPhone instead.
